Our history

The archetype of a nostalgic inn with over 100 years of tradition spoils its ever-growing following with the best (North) German cuisine. This, moreover, in an environment, which was furnished according to the spirit of the time, in the Art Nouveau style with late Wilhelminian taste as well as a lot of wood, precious carving and mirror work.

In 1885 it was still the “Holsten Hotel” with restaurant, opposite the Holsten brewery. On February 27, 1904, the first concession was granted to Fritz Klüver, who operated the tavern and restaurant there from 1905. For the granting the proud sum of 15 marks had to be paid to the city committee bureau of the city district Altona in Prussia.

The old splendor was probably considered out of date in the late fifties or sixties of the twentieth century and partially disguised.

At the beginning of the eighties, the old splendor was freed again and so still today essential parts of the furnishings, such as the counter with the counter shelf including clock and barometer or the large mirrors, have been preserved as originals. Also the cast-iron columns are by no means only ornaments, but carry a part of the house. The archetype of our nostalgic economy invites you even after a hundred years to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life at the door.

We are the perfect place for a cozy chat with a freshly tapped beer or a good glass of wine.

In February 2009, the TV station Kabel 1 was our guest. As part of the series “Abenteuer Leben – täglich Wissen”, Germany’s “Superschnitzel” was sought. The Anno 1905 went to the start for the federal state of Hamburg.
